Please include “Misophonia”. I have suffered from this condition since age nine. It is very real. Google it, please. There is a pane on Squidoo that is good. I am now 73. It has not gotten any better with age.

    • Many things referred to as phobias are not really phobias. Misophobia is a hatred of certain types of sounds and many believe it is a neurological disorder rather than phycholgical symptom. Sometimes Misophobia is referred to as “selective sound sensitivity”. So while a very real condition, we have choosen to leave it off our list

      • May want to rethink that. When I was 6, I had a very bad nightmare. The only nightmare in my life where I woke up screaming. During this nightmare there was a light tapping sound (much like the sound from a newton’s cradle if you ever so slightly lift one ball to start it). Ever since then, if I hear a light tapping sound, just barely audible I feel afraid. The memory of that nightmare comes rushing back, and I will just about panic if I can’t make the sound stop. It’s not that I don’t like the sound, it’s that the sound triggers a response of fear due to a traumatic experience I had as a child. There is a difference between hating something, and being afraid of it, and people usually know the difference between getting angry over something, and feeling fear.

        • I have the exact same fear and dream. It definitely was more prominent in my childhood, but even as an adult sometimes I feel/experience/hear light tapping and I have to literally shudder and let out some kind of noise to shake myself out of it. Sometimes it’s an actual light tapping sometimes it comes back in my head. So strange but so interesting to hear someone else relate.

        • I also have this problem. It only bothers me when it happens, so it doesn’t effect my day to day living. The sight of a Newton’s cradle on a desk is upsetting to me… just the idea that it has the capability to have an unpleasant effect on me.

        • joseph eggburt

that is a phsychological trigger to a traumatic event in the past, not a phobia. phobias are irratinal fears with no trauma that might trigger such fear. your fear is rationalized by childhood trauma.

      • Veronica Emmons

I have constant nightmares/terrors of being hated/outcasted by loved ones… is there a name for that kind of fear?

        • There may be a name for this, but personally I am not interested in labels, I am interested in the process holding these fear and hate in place. Most therapists don’t get hung up on labeling clients

        • Emily Close

I have a fear of the sound it makes when you cut skin and I can not find the name for it anywhere

          • Not sure you will find a name for this. The mind can have a fear of almost anything, real or made up. Because there are an infinite variations of fears or phobias, there are plenty of fears that are unique or expressed in unique ways. That doesn’t mean your situation is special or that you have some new disorder. The mechanisms for a phobia are basically the same, regardless of subject matter. It is understandable you want to put a name on it and you can, since most phobias are Greek or Latin words put in front of “phobia”. Look up the Greek or Latin word (or words) for your phobia and you are half way there

      • I believe what you’re thinking about is misophonia not misophobia because misophobia is the fear of being contaminated by dirt or germs.

    • Is there a fear of somebody finding your weakness?????

      • Our neurology can create fears to virtually any idea, so is this possible yes. Is there a name for this, I don’t know

      • i decided to coin a name for it because I also have it. I combined weakness and found in greek a while ago and i made the term adeversiphobia <3

      • I have it. So I coined the term achillephobia a while ago. Achilles was impenetrable except for his heel which was his only weakness and it led to his demise. So yeah 🙂

        • What is a fear of crying in public called?

          • Not sure on that one. Not every fear has a name and the human nervous system can fear pretty much anything. Also not all fears are the same. Some are anxieties or obsessions or other things. Sorry I can’t give you a better answer

    • They also should’ve included Trypophobia

      • Is there a fear of going deaf? Like a fear of losing your hearing

        • If you are asking is this a common fear, probably not. Is there a name for it, don’t know. I can tell you the mind can associate fear to any object, thought process or idea, and since you are experience this, we know it exists for you. What’s behind this fear is the big question and you will need to work with someone to find out what this could be. Hope that helps

    • Lana Elsahili

what is the fear of secrets being told

  2. Is there a name for the fear of anything/everything having to do with the medical field?

    • michael

Anyone can name a phobia, simply by taking the Greek or Latin word you are looking for and adding phobia behind it. It is how the majority of phobia names are created. If my memory serves me correct, the word you are seeking would be Medicuphobia.
While putting a label on fears can be interesting, what is of real value is knowing how to deal with the fear you have and taking the steps needed to overcome them. It is of more help to deal with the mechanism of how the subconscious creates fear instead of the subject matter the fear is based on. Doing this on your own can be quite a challenge, but working with someone who deals in changing irrational fears can beneficial. Find someone in your area who can help you, or if that is problematic, feel free to call Designed Thinking at 866-718-9995

    • Heather Getsay

      Yes, panophobia

    • It’s called panophobia

  3. i got OCD with stupid tnghis, like not being able to drink from a cup and other stupid stuff like that. it’s funny, now won’t even use a cup at my house, i just drink out of the faucet. but i do wish that i could stop all of my OCD’s(i got like 4 of them)

    • Nothing changes by doing nothing. You can avoid discomfort by tricks, distraction and avoidance only for so long before the anxieties and obsessions no longer respond to your actions. Seek help

  4. Does anybody know of a fear/phobia of infestation, or fear of being overrun or controlled? I’m not quite sure how to describe it, for example if a lot of insects were inside your room, covering it– then you’d fear that, because it’s an infestation. But, not just insects, infestation in general.

    • If you can think of it, then there can be a fear of it. I wouldn’t get too hung up on finding a name for it, but if you want to name the fear of infestation, just look up the words greek or latin derivitive and add “phobia” behind it. That is really how phobia names are created and you don’t need to be a doctor.
The real issue though is what do you do about it. If you walk into most health professionals offices and say, hey have you ever work with someone who has “xxxxxphoba”, they probably won’t know any of them except for the most common ones. Phoba names are just words and they are often misapplied. Many are anxieties, obsessions and other disorders that have the symptoms of fears. Not all phobias are created equally. When a fear becomes generalized, such as yours, it usually has become a bit more complex than a simple phobia, thus it probably needs to dealt with differently.
To overcome you fear, see a health professional who understands these complexities

    • Wolverine Otter

I got a question: What’s it called when you’re afraid of stories not being real? Like Undertale not being real, or waking up from a dream and knowing it wasn’t real. I don’t know why, I just get AFRAID with the idea of someone/something with a whole story and personality being made up. Anyone else?

    • infestatiophobia is the name of this fear

    • Okalani Love

      Composmentisamicusphobia

I combined all the words. It means “Fear of someone you’re unsure of if they’re your friend controlling you”, or in short, “Fear of someone (that you know) controlling you”.

compos mentis means control of the mind. Amicus means friend. (Phobia is obviously fear of).

  5. Is there a phobia for this: being terrified of being hurt emotionally, disliked, or displeased by your loved ones or the people you care about i.e. Family, boyfriend, friends, co workers… Feeling negativity from these people or feeling hated/ unwanted/ not needed by them. And slightly afraid of this with strangers?

    • michael

Phobia means fear and the possibility exists in any of us that anything can be feared. Luckily for most of us, our life styles and ability to work through experiences negate these possibilities. People like to throw labels on things and the label of phobia often become a catch all for larger and more complicated concerns. You may be suffering from social anxieties, PTSD or some form of paranoid feelings. I suggest you see a professional in your area and maybe this will help you get some insights on what you are going through

  6. bob smith

Is there a fear of your mom because when i saw here i got scared

  7. Is there a fear of royalty, or kings/queens/presidents?

    • The mind can associate fear to any subject matter. Fear is an emotion and emotions do not need to be logical, therefor any irrational thought process can attach itself to an emotion

    • regiumphobia is the name of this

  8. i would really want to know what the fear of WET GRASS is called( * shudders*)

    • All phobias take the Latin or Greek word as there base. Look of the word and then phobia at the end. It is really that simple and many fears are misdiagnosed. Like fear of germs is usually OCD, fear of people is Social Anxiety. They are just labels. People can fear anything. It doesn’t make them strange or unique and there isn’t always are real good reason for the fear. Hope that helps

    • Omg I HAVE THE SAME FEAR …. ever since I was little I couldn’t touch it bare foot, just thinking about the feeling and texture makes me want to scream. It tends to only be wet grass though I have tried searching for it but i can only find fear of grass.

  9. all the articles on this website are very much helpful to me. more grease to your elbow and God bless.

  10. I always want all the doors closed to my house, including rooms and toilets. Is this a fear? I feel uncomfortable whenever i see an open door. Please advise. Thanks

    • Sounds likea fear, but it depends on the intensity of the feeling and what happens to these feelings if you were to ignore them. Not all fears are phobias, some are anxieties or even obsessions. If this is just a minor bother, then you probably can live with it. If it consumes a fair amount of time out of you daily experience, you probably want to get some help and see how you can overcome this problem

  11. Is there a fear or liking or loving someone because of past experiences?

    • Past experiences are usually part (and often all) of the reason fears and phobias exist

  12. Not sure if this is a fear/phobia? I can not see children in dangerous situations, anyway dangerous in my eyes. For example, if I see a mother pushing her shopping cart and her little toddler/child is standing in the cart or leaning out while mom turned her back & is comparing apples, I need to turn away because I am starting to imagine the kid falling head first to the floor. It doesn’t matter stranger or my own children. E.g. when I notice my 5 year old daughter going up or down the stairs I will always tell her to hold on to the handrail and I will stop anything I was doing and listen to her going up the stairs. Once she’s upstairs, I will relax. Those are just 2 examples of many. I am always scared or worried that a child gets hurt. I don’t get that feeling about adults. My wife sometimes gets a little upset with me, if I scared her with one of my reactions. Is there a name to this condition? Thanks

    • Marc
There are thousands of phobia names and new ones are being made up all the time. Whether you find a name for it or not will be less important than you addressing the fear. The challenge is not just your perception of possible danger for children, it is you don’t trust you will be able to handle something happening to them. There are many reason this could occur and I recommend you find someone to work with to help you resolve this fear

    • Marc,

The best I can research up to is of a symptom of FOH, Fear of harm. It is a fear in which the bearer has strict fears of others or themselves being harmed in any sort of way.

  13. The fear of rejection. I have a hard time at talking to people and asking people places. It gets worse if I think that I won’t succeed in life because of my fear.

  14. My mother hate old stuffs of the house and throw them out into the waste even numerous times she discards useful things. She thinks if she doesn’t do so then something bad will happen. What could be said about it?

    • Does you mother see her actions as being problematic? If she doesn’t, there is little to say about it. If someone doesn’t think they have a problem, why would they listen to advice from anyone. If she does think this is a problem, then I would get her to see a counselor. This may be more OCD oriented than just a phobia

  15. I know someone who is scared of coat sleeves. They are OK with regular shirt sleeves, not not heavier coat sleeves. In winter, they only wear vests.

What is the name of this phobia? Sleevephobia?

    Thank you

    • Phobia names are derived from their Greek or Latin name with phobia added on the end. Look up the Greek word for coat sleeve and put phobia on the end of it and you would have an official name

  16. Jake lane

Is there a fear of someone being able to hear your thoughts

    • If someone has the fear, then it exists. If you are asking for the name of such a fear, find the Greek origin and add phobia. That is how phobia names are created

      • Glory Song

I have this fear also, but I have never been able to find a name for it.

  17. George daily

Is there a phobia of fear of being murdered??

  18. Nour Lotfy

Is there a fear of being hated?

  19. i need to know the name of the fear of rejection. I have been searching for it and I cannot find it. Please help

    • Michael

The reason you are having difficulty finding the name is because the fear of rejection is just that, fear of rejection. It is not typically classified as a phobia. If you are seeking help, anyone in the health profession will understand what you are speaking of

  20. Caroline

Is there a fear of not being able to see

    • Michael

If someone can think it, there can be a fear of it. Is this a common fear, no. Do people have it? Probably

  21. Stranger

What about fear of being watched while walking down the street ??

  22. Is there a fear of everyone leaving and forgetting about you?

    • Do people have this fear? Yes. Is there a name for it? If there is, I do not know about it

    • Everyone has that fear- the fear that a loved/respected one would leave- but if you do them you are a naturally suspicious person or if it is really bothering you- like always thinking ‘why is s/he talking to me, are they going to leave?’ or acting really really annoyingly nice to make sure someone doesn’t leave or something like that.
      -Ana

    • Athazagoraphobia

  23. Hi, i have a fear of going somewhere to ask, or fear of asking people in person. Is there a specific name for it?

  24. Is there a fear of being without someone you know in a public place?
If i go shopping with my friends i have to walk behind them , so i can see them or i start panicking .
When I am without someone I know in public , I start to panic and find it hard to breathe .
    I really want to know if it’s a real phobia . ?

    • If you are feeling uncomfortable to the point it is interfering with your day to day activities, then you have a problem, regardless of what it is called. It is not uncommon for some tp fear being in certain places without a friend or someone they know. You want to work with someone one to help you get through this

  25. Does anyone know the name of the fear of cremated ashes blowing your way or getting on you?

  26. I suppose this could be related to clausterophobia, but I have a very hard times with rooms. I used to live in a studio and I loved it and then when I moved into an apartment with doorways leading into separate rooms I began to experience more paranoia and anxiety. I feel like I am not in a bright or open environment, even in blazing sunshine, if the rooms are divided off. Also I CANNOT sleep near a door, open or closed, they scare me a lot.

  27. Is there a fear of someone not letting you get passed or get somewhere

    • The question should be “Is it possible I could have a fear of having someone not let me pass or get somewhere?” and the answer is yes. Anyone can have a fear of anything. Some of these fears are not shared by others and most people will not have the fear you are experiencing. If you experience it, then you have it. Now the question is, how much does it affect you. If it is a frequent fear, work with someone (a therapist who deals in anxieties and fears) to help you over come this

  28. What about fear of statement that ends with sadness, being stressful and thinks that it will end up with worst?

    • Can there be such a fear, of course, people can fear anything. Is there a name for it, not that I am aware of

  29. Is there a fear of not using things up? Such as a half-way filled water bottle, where I need to either fill it all the way or empty it all.
Also it there a fear of not using correct punctuation or spelling?

    • People can fear anything, any object, any surrounding, any process, you name it. So yes to all your questions

      • There are many dynamics at play here and I know there is much more to this story, so any attempts to explain your sons behaviors would be inaccurate, other than to say he has unresolved issues, is deeply conflicted about himself, his identity, his past and how he can process his emotions.
You know has an adult he gets to make his own choices and this is troubling for those who love him because his model of how the world should operate is not in alignment with how it really does operate. While you want to the best for him, you will want to work on changing the only thing you can change, yourself and how you hold your relationship with your son. That is not what most mothers want to hear in these situations, but you know you cannot run his life, you know you cannot change the mind of a son who is trying very hard to distance himself from you.
You have done your part in raising him. There were things that happened you had no control over and there is no point in looking back at what could have been done differently. Your job is to live your life and if you stay overly attached to how could behave in the future, you will end up living his life and not yours
Should he want to change himself at some point in the future or if he changes his desire to have a different relationship with you, it will start on his terms and you can be open to that if that time occurs. Until that time you have little recourse.
Wish I could offer something more hopeful, but acceptance of what you can control is sometimes the best answer to situations

  30. I have a fear of people talking too fast or too slow or too loud because of a recurring dream since I was 4/5 years old. I think it has been worse since the dream came true. My little sister is basically living that nightmare because she’s 4/5 years old and my dream was about my mom and dad shouting at each other, my dad too loud and my mom too quiet. In the dream, I had an older sister (which is why I think the dream was from my sisters point of view) and my ‘older sister’ was just staring at them and saying something really, really quietly. The thing is that dream was sort of true- my mom and dad split up a year ago and I remember them shouting and my dad crying and I was in my room really freaked out saying rally quietly ‘It’s just a dream. It’s just a dream’ my sister must have been there or something. It’s weird and when I was 5, my parents never fought soI don’t know what caused this dream to happen again and again and again. Now if a teacher at school shouts at me I would immediately ‘put my defences up’ until I am alone in a bathroom or whatnot and cry or just stare. It’s really weird and I just want it to go away.

    • Since your mind is creating this, it probably will not just go away on its own. While you have conscious awareness of the process, you don’t really know why it is occurring, meaning it is a subconscious process. Find someone in your area to work with if you can. The alternative to working with someone is to keep having the dreams and that doesn’t sound very pleasant

  31. What is the phobia of large empty rooms? I am assuming there is one…

    • This would fall under the heading of agoraphobia, which is the fear of large or open places

  32. Trust issues

What is fear of trusting people called?

    • Depends on whats causing it. Could be Paranoia, could be lack of self trust

    • Salomé Baratte

Hello, I’m trying to find a name for my “phobia” (idk if it’s even a phobia).
I’m completely frightened by self harm. Not only on me, but on others too. I can watch Easley watch someone being hurts in movie, but every time someone hurts himself in petrified. The act of self harming scares me in himself, so I… kinda associate the razors with it? I’m not scared of razors but I can go numb and worse if I’m getting hurt with it (not because of the pain but just the act). I don’t know if it’s considered as a phobia or a trauma…
Thank you for your help, and excuse my bad English.

      • Michael

While this could be a phobia, you may want to check with someone and see if you have some OCD or obsessive traits.

  33. Zach Geiger

Is there a fear of royalty?

  34. I have a fear of sitting with my back to the door.
My colleagues and boss don’t understand this and unfortunately my position at my desk is such that my back is to the door.
    It is very uncomfortable.
Please let me know if there are other people out there who suffer from this.

    • There are other out there with this fear, but I could not tell you percentage of people who have to deal with this. This fear most likely can be overcome, but you will have to find someone to work with you, since you probably wouldn’t be able to do this on your own

  35. Confrontation

The fear of (direct) confrontation. Is there a phobia name for that? If not, you’d probably say to make one using greek roots and what-not but I don’t want to say a word and it not be scientifically correct.

Anyway, I have the hardest time talking to people about how I feel. It’s not exactly a fear of conflict, but rather if somebody approaches me with a problem I just sit there and take it and don’t say anything because I’m freaking out and don’t know what to say. If I try to talk or even open my mouth to speak I’ll start crying, I can’t help it. It doesn’t make it better that people are always demanding an answer out of me, like I don’t have it. So, then I just end up either A). brushing off what they said until they bring it up again (which I’m hoping with a burning passion they won’t) or B). do whatever they ask so they can get off my back. Like, I hate HATE answering questions about my well being like “how are you” or “how’s your day going” because every single person asks the same thing and I have no idea how my day is going so I just say “hi” because it sounds like “fine” and people never actually give a rat’s butt how you’re really feeling.

On the contrary, if I’m the one with the problem I’ll won’t say anything to a person for months at a time and it gets me super depressed because nothing changes. The only way I can handle it is to write/type it all out and put in a place I know they’ll find it. Usually a note always ends in me saying “please take my feelings into account and don’t approach me because I don’t want to talk about it”.. so yeah, this is long but when I finally do express myself I can’t help but let off steam. So anyway, is there an official name for this???

    Please respond thanks!

    • One of the challenges of naming something is the labels are too often incorrect. A germ phobia more often than not is OCD, fear of confrontation may be social phobia, may an identity issue, it may mean you will only feel good about answering questions about yourself until you have really accomplished something really big, meaning it is not a phobia, rather you hold your own perspective or importance in a way that is not quite working for you.

Atychiphobia often used for fear of confrontation, but does that apply to you, it may or it may not. Let me ask you, do you want to have this label so you can put yourself under it and think that now that you have the label you are somewhat better off because others have recognized it or do you want to go to a professional and say I have this phobia, people help. Professionals don’t need the label other than for dealing with insurance companies.
It really sounds to me as if your idea of importance in relationship to the world outside could use some tweeking, that if you give an answer to someone it will put you in a box that you are uncomfortable with. Maybe there is a level of uncertainty it brings up, but that’s just me and I don’t have all the info
I hope this helps and I hope you find someone to work with you can help you process these interactions differently

    • Sounds like you’re and INFJ personality type. Check out the Myers Briggs test.

  36. Phagophobia

Phagophpbia is horrible. It’s like having an eating disorder like anorexia except you don’t want to lose weight and you don’t want to be malnourished- it literally just feels impossible to swallow (and there is a fear of choking sort of… its hard to explain) I had it when I was 11 for about a year and a half and it destroyed my social life, altered me forever.
My word of advice to anyone who may have it- please make sure you seek help. No one in my family tried to help me unfortunately, so make sure you go to therapy to get it fixed rather than not like me.

  37. Manjuladevi Ramasamy

I use forget everything so quickly the things like the dress i wear or the people whom I met a day before, the thing is that i don`t even notice the things around me. I don`t even remember anything of my childhood.. I really worry about forgetting these things but I do remember everything that I pay attention like my work etc.. Is this some kind oh phobia ?

    • While you may have fears regarding your memory, I don’t think this is the real issue. There are many things that could be happening, there is just not enough information in your message. I suggest you see a therapist that can give you a proper diagnosis.

    • I’m not sure if you’re absolutely terrified of forgetting but we most likely have different perceptions on what that would be like (for me, it would be like having everything written on sticky notes and such). Athazagoraphobia is the fear of being forgotten or ignored, or the fear of forgetting. Anything that can be thought of can also be feared, so you could consider your situation a phobia. Whether other people do is a different story because they may think a fear has to be of a certain level for it to be a phobia.

  38. Dalton Otto

Is there a name for being afraid someone will leave you because they got annoyed by what they used to love about you?

  39. Georgia x

I have a fear of wet hands touching me, like when u spend a while in the shower ur hands start to go wrinkly and if im at the swimming baths i cant stand it if someone try’s to come up to me and touch me. I hate the feel of it and the only thing i can manage to touch when my hands are like that is a towel and i hav to wait until they arent wrinkly anymore. Do u know if there is a name for this phobia?

    • Sorry don’t know a name for this and the name is not going to help you change how you feel. What will help is finding a therapist that can help you work through this

      • Mine is a little different. I don’t like when my hands get wet. If I am in the shower or pool its ok but if I touch something wet I freak out. I don’t know anyone who deals with this.

        • Is it a fear or are you squeamish about the tactile feeling wetness brings? If so that may not be a phobia. Sensory or tactile sensations may give us the chills, but this can start falling into the realm of other interpretations our nervous system can create

    • I have that too. It’s not a phobia, it’s called sensory processing disorder.

  40. Is therea name for fear of being given romantic affection? I’ve been dealing with someone giving romantic advances and I am not able to handle this affection. It’s not that I feel unworthy, though.

  41. Anonymous

This is a huge problem in my life because it makes me insane. And when I say insane, I mean INSANE. I have an EXTREME fear of scratching noises. Once, when I was in an extracurricular class and it was break time, this guy got up and just randomly started scratching the blackboard, and I ran out of the classroom screeching. When I told my friends about it and they started to scratch random things to test me, I yelled stop a million times until they actually stopped. Today, my brother was bored and he started to scratch the wall with his nails, and I told him to stop, but he didn’t, and kept going. I was TRAUMATIZED and started crying hysterically and screaming, and ended up hugging my knees sobbing on my bedroom floor. It’s a huge problem in my life, but I can’t go to a therapist for my own reasons. What should I do?

    • If you area unwilling to talk to a therapist, that limits your choices, even if your reasons seem good. You already know telling people to stop something is not going to change much. I suspect there are some deeper underlining reasons to your fears that are not going to disappear until you find the ability to talk to a counselor. Maybe phone therapy sounds more appealing then person to person sessions

  42. Is there a fear of being watched while youre sleeping ? I will lay awake for hours & barely move a muscle out of fear of a shadow in a corner .

    • Michael

We could call it being paranoid, but I don’t know how this would help. If you have a fear and it consistently occurs, you want to see someone about it. Having a name for it may make you feel less anxious about it or feel like you are not that different, but it will not make the fear go away

  43. I get very disturbed when I see people murdered brutally (real pictures or even in movies), I’m not scared of blood but its just very disturbing to watch. I immediately close my eyes but the scene will keep replaying in my mind. Is this a phobia?

    • Michael

There are many reasons this could be occuring. Phobias are typically related to fears, not playing images over and over. If this is a big enough problem, you may want to see someone.

  44. Fear of road sweepers ?? just can’t deal with them!!!! Could someone please tell me the name

    • I had the fear of street sweepers as a child. I still kind of shudder when I hear one, but it is nothing like when I was a child. I would catch a glimpse out the window and start to shake and cry.

    • Oh god, when I was younger I used to be super scared that I’d get sucked up into them. I’d immediately start walking faster to get away from it as fast as I could or get into a building before it got too close, I wouldn’t stop trying to get away until it was out of sight.

  45. Is there a fear of not being able to scream ?

    • Probably, but if you are looking to place a name on it, we don’t have it hear. Realize most phobia names are not scientifically produced and there is no difference in seeking help by telling someone you have phobia X or a fear of being able to scream

    • I have something like that, I think it’s because of my dreams. In all my disturbing, unnerving, scary, or just down-right strange dreams, I can never talk or scream or shout etc., at least I can’t hear it, and the dreams are normally really quiet or completely silent. I also can’t stand silence, I feel really uncomfortable when being in complete silence for too long.

  46. Living in Ireland and the UK within a society where everyone accepts this as a cultural norm and can often take offense or think you are weird if you decline, the thought of drinking or smelling a cup of tea or being splashed with tea or having to mop up spilled tea is my unusual and for me terrifying phobia. I have had this fear since a child. Perversely I have no issue with dry tea leaves, I can hold these and let them cascade through my fingers, even like the sensation and the smell. But once mixed with water and everything becomes abhorrent and cringing to my sensibilities. Does this phobia have a Latin or Greek name – did these cultures partake or know of tea drinking?

    • All phobia names have a Greek or Latin origin based off of words that match the subject matter. Was there a fear of spilling tea in those cultures, I doubt it, but that is not how phobias are named. Find the latin word for tea or spilling tea, add phobia and you will have your name

  47. I suffer with Generalised Anxiety Disorder and I have a fear of opening doors or answering phones, I go into complete panic mode, is there a name for this? It would be easier to explain to people if it was an actual phobia rather than people just thinking I’m odd (more odd!)

    • The only person you should be explaining this to is a therapist and they will not need a name. Other people do not need to know the extent of your fears

  48. Anon900

I have a fear that is quite hard to describe, but in its simplest form, I suppose it’s a fear of becoming intolerant to pain. I never take pain medication (for minor sports injuries, period pain etc.) because my fear is that if I need pain medication for manageable pain, I would not be able to cope with a more severe pain, such as breaking a bone or being stabbed! I don’t actually fear that these things will happen, but it’s almost like I’m building up my pain threshold just in case. I thought it might have be a variation on pharmacophobia but the only effects I’m fearful of is that it will lower my tolerance to pain and then I’ll need pain medication for a bruised knee! I suppose it’s the same with sleeping pills. No matter how sleep deprived I may be, I will never take anything to aid my sleep in case I will never be able to sleep naturally again. Writing this out now has made me realise that it probably is pharmacophobia, but specifically the fear of medication dependency.

  49. I am a female. I have a phobia of dating, marriage, intimacy heartbteaks and childbirth and so many times i dont want to stop it. I like that i have this phobia and try as much as possible to stay away from guys. People try talking me into dating but i always refuse. I am also very chauvinistic and have never thought of changing.

  50. Wonderful collection. I am very thankful to you for documenting these fears. I am writing my fears for a spiritual program and provided information is very useful

  51. Whenever I’m home alone I always feel like I’m being watched or if I’m being followed around is this a fear or not ?

  52. I’m enquiring as to what a fear of going to the bar is called. It’s an actual fear in case I fall with the drinks etc. my friends don’t take this fear seriously and think I’m being lazy which really hurts my feelings . I’d appreciate if you could respond . Thank you

    • Lisa, I believe your fear is real, but I do not know what it is called. Having a name for a fear will not make it go away. Find someone to work with who specializes in transforming fears. Even without a name, any fear and be alleviated.

  53. Is there a fear for being murdered? Like, if i’m terrified of being murdered by someone is that a phobia?

    • It may be a phobia if it is unrealistic. Is this a specific person you are afraid of or just in general?

  54. i have a fear of loud women. means when you know a really heavy women talks in a high pitched and a raspy voice who is very energetic. it really scares me. my heart starts racing fast and i end up tearing. what is it called? i believe i have it because my mom is really sweet and talks in a sweet voice and when i see women exactly her opposite it just scares me to death.

    • Sarra, there may or may not be a name for this fear. What is important is what are you going to do with it? Have you worked with a therapist or counselor of some sort to work through this fear or are you going to continue to be bothered by it? Don’t wait for someone to label the fear before you decide to change.

  55. Hi, I have an obvious fear of being touched, which you’ve named numerous times throughout the list. In addition to this, I feel the same amount of discomfort when watching other people touch, even if it’s just a casual knock of the hands when walking past each other. Is this a separate phobia or just an extension of the predetermined?

    • Without additional information, it is hard to say, but my guess it could be part of the same fear

  56. savannah d

what is the fear of farts or passing gas

  57. I have a fear of people doing my makeup, cutting/styling my hair, doing my nails, massages, dentists, eye doctors. Basically anything that has anything to do w touching me. It sucks !

  58. I have a small question that I’ve been curious about. Is there a specific phobia for making mistakes and being wrong? Or is there a phobia for being humiliated in public? Because if there are, I’d like to know because I have those phobias. Also does anyone have any advice for someone with social anxiety and fear of making mistakes and being wrong? That would be very much appreciated…

    • Fear of failure is not uncommon. If you are asking for a name to label this fear, there may be one, but I do not know it.
You social anxiety is probably tied into this, since fear of making mistakes and failure are usually tied into low self esteem or self worth, meaning on some level you feel or see yourself as being less capable than others or you can’t seem to put your own self worth into perspective with society in a way that supports you.
There are many reason for this and the best advice is to work with someone who can help you get to the root structure or issues keeping this problem alive for you. You can change, but you have to know what components of yourself that could be improved

    • I have this similar fear, or at least an anxiety of it sufficient to curtail nearly all of my social interactions. In my own case, I was subtly taught that not knowing something was a crime against the family, because it might cause me to make a mistake, which then reflected against my parents. I never learned how to say, “Oops, I didn’t know that!” It’s amazing how crippling it is. If nothing else, Tamlyn A., you’re not alone.

    • Katagelophobia – Fear of ridicule. It’s quite common; I’d say normal and usual.

  59. I have been trying for over a year to keep my phobia in check. I make this work, sometimes, but lately they are getting worse and i feel like I am sliding down a slippery slope that I cannot climb back up. I used to have these thoughts about germs in my teens, but way far in the background and they were not bad. I don’t know why this is happening. What should I do

    • I think you may want to get checked for OCD. Many people label anything they fear as a phobia and unfortunately this is not always correct, especially with the fear of germs. Trying to battle these thoughts or fears by force or anyother method may work for a while, but eventually you will have to try something different. Try finding a CBT in your area or we can work with you here over the phone. This is not likely to go away on its own, so find someone to work with

  60. is there a phobia for being loved or for people having a crush on you

  61. Unless name

Is there a fear of having a piano in your home the person likes music and listen all the time also doesn’t mind being in a house of someone else who has a piano in their house also doesn’t mind going out and listening to one play. Just said it something that creeps them out with it in their own home please help me with this issue I am having with someone I love very deeply because it’s really hurting me and I want to understand the fear and also is there such a thing or just an excuse thank you …….

    • Whether there is a name for this or not does not mean that the fear is not real for you. I suggest you talk to someone about this who can help you unravel what is behind this fear. It is obviously an issue for you so it is worth taking the time to figure it out and get it resolved.

  62. I dont think this was on the list, but is there a ‘phobia’ the fear of being watched when you know you’re alone?

    • It’s called Scopophobia – the fear of being seen or stared at by other

  63. Ok weird one, is there a name for a fear of elderly people getting hurt? Whenever someone shows me a ‘funny’ video of an older person getting hurt, most times i cry? Does anyone else here have that too?

    • Erin, that these picture bring up strong emotional responses in you that are not fear, euggests something else is going on. You may want to see or talk to a professional to see what is going on behind these reactions

  64. My daughter has a fear of people looking at her bare feet. Is there a name for this?

    • There are all sorts of things that could be going on here. The name of the problem is less important then finding out what is really going on behinf her fears. If this is a big problem for her, she should see a professional

  65. Is there a phobia of someone getting really close to you? Not sexually it’s just someone coming really close to you physically.. and is there a fear of people sneezing or coughing or burping or any of these types of stuff?

    • Sounds like there may be some relationship issues involved here. This is something you will want to work on, since it will effect your entire life.
As for the sneezing and burping, I would first ask, is it really fear or is it disgust or annoyance, because the latter would not be a phobia

  66. Is there a word for the fear of people you care about being in danger and you not being able to do anything about it?

    • I don’t know if there is such a word, but very often this type of thinking can lead to other problems of low self esteem, obsessions, etc. You may want to work with a professional on this if it becomes intense

  67. Hey there! This post was really helpful, I just wanted to know if there was a name or phobia for like fear of being stupid. Or considered not intelligent, ’cause I’ve suffered from this. When like I forget something so obvious or lose track of intelligent conversation or I fail a simple(that’s how I see afterwards) test, I feel this discomfort on my chest.(I actually had a panic attack once)

Please, is this a phobia or a psychological thing? It’s getting serious. And when I tell people about it, they think I’m crazy.

  68. Is there a phobia for the fear of shirt tags, or labels on fabrics like blankets or towels? I have to have the tags cut off everything. I can’t touch a tag without holding it like it’s contaminated and wash my hands after I toss it in the trash. They make me gag.

    • Kristen, while there could be a phobia element in this, it sounds as if you are suffering from OCD. You may want to check this out with a local health provider and get a proper diagnosis

    • omg same it is so sad

      • Considering you’re the most recent comment i can find, i was wondering if maybe you know the fear of ones ear being stabbed, or something entering ones ear thats sharp. I got this fear from watching Luther on Netflix aha. But i was getting my hair highlighted and it was my mum. She accidentally stuck the metal hook in my ear when she went to pull some hair through the hair net and i started crying it was like a panic attack.

        • Not all fears are phobias. Many times they fall under the heading of other issues or just life events. Being stabbed in the ear most certainly can be traumatic, especially if one has recently watched something scary related to this. This may just be a one time situation. If it persists, find a counselor. You don’t need a name for something to work with one.

  69. Hi! I have found that I tend to push friends/relatives away when one of said friends/relatives dies. That reality keeps me very emotional so I deal with that by greatly diminishing contact with those still alive. Thoughts please? Thanks.

    • Without knowing more, my guess is you take an all or nothing approach to relationships. You hold people too close, which makes death extra painful. Without any other options, your only choice is to suffer intensely when people die or to push them away.
Find someone to work with that can help you adjust your over attachment to others when you get in a relationship with them, to help with the black and white perspective you take. Your way of connecting with people is not wrong but it does have consequences. I can’t tell you how to do this, since there are many dynamics and variances that can hold someone in this approach, so again find someone to help you work through this

  70. Basilisk (nickname not real name)

Is it possible to have a fear of not being able help someone or anyone if they are in a very serious situation? I try to help my friend if they are in trouble, and if I don’t help them, I get really scared and I keep think that I can’t help them at all.

    • Yes it is possible, but it may be something other than a phobia. This sounds as if you don’t trust your ability to deal with loss or hurt, which could exist for numerous reasons. Check with someone in your area for a dianosis

  71. Hi. I have this rare fear/phobia of not having a water or any fluid to drink with me. I’ve been searching through it over the net, but I can’t find one. Some people may think that I’m weird because I always carry a bottle of water with me even though I’m just going somewhere near. I just can’t breathe without it. It interferes with those things I want to do sometimes. I hate it. What should I do? Thanks.

    • DJ – the name of fears, especially ones that are not that common are not important. Even if you have a name but hardly anyone knows what it means, it is not helpful. Names may matter for insurance companies, but plenty of people get help for less than common issues.
Now people can fear just about anything, because the mechanism for many fears is virtually the same, it’s just focused on different subject matter.
However not all fears are phobias. Some are misinterpreted, such as fear of germs or fear of God often tie into OCD.
So what should you do? Well you know if you don’t do anything, nothing will change. What you want is to work with someone who can get to the core issues behind the fears and find out if it is a simple phobia or something more complex. Look in your area or give us a call

  72. Is there a fear of telling someone you don’t like them back.Because I’ve struggled with this forever and I haven’t ever turned someone down when they say they like me.It really makes me depressed cause I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND.And it’s really effecting me in more ways than one.

    • Henry, not wanting to tell someone something they may not want to hear creates discomfort for many people, it is just to what level. There are many dynamics that could be at play here. Your self esteem, your identity, your ability to deal with let downs, over empathizing with others pain or mixed emotions. You don’t trust your ability to effectively communicate sensitive material like this, you trust you can deal with how this person will react or you may care too much about her response. Since you have never had to deal with this, either go out on a limb and force the issue or work with someone who can help you work through this

  73. I don’t know if it’s a fear or not.. Whenever im climbing stairs, getting out of a car, running walking etc, i imagine myself falling or hitting something and i have the feeling like I AM GOING TO FALL like and i unintentionally make my hands in fists..

    • It is a fear, however whether it is solely a fear or contains other components I cannot tell from the info given. Is there a phobia name for this – not that I am aware of

  74. kattniss

is there a fear of drinking water? i always feel like i’m drowning when i drink water, this usually causes me to grip things like i’m trying to save myself. does anyone else feel like this?

    • Again, there can be a fear of anything. You are not trusting your bodies ability to do what it does best, which is keep you alive and all thing required to do so. I trust the discomfort you experience feels very real to you. This started somewhere for you, you were not born with this fear. Find someone to work with. Sometimes fears are easy to overcome, sometimes they are more complex and if you are serious about helping yourself, you will take action instead of just worrying about it

  75. For the last 6 months I have developed a fear for “throwing objects” not throwing them away ( as in horading) just throwing things. I saw there is a fear for not being able to catch things, but mine is the opposite. So if my husband is across the room and asks me to throw him the remote control, I have a panic physical reaction. I can’t even throw my dog a bone, and of course forget about me trying to throw my kids a ball. I have always had some generalized anxiety, but I have noticed that this particular act causes my hear to beat fast and loose my breath.

    • Anxieties can go from general to specific actions or items. There is no way of knowing based on what you have written, however this seems important to you, so find someone to work with in your area.

      • hello! this is unrelated to the previous post but I don’t know how to comment separately. so, is there a name for the irrational fear of being taken care of? if so, I would really love to know. whenever people try to take care or look after me I get uncomfortable and feel like I should be the one taking care of them. help a gal out! 😉

        • Michael

Not all irrational fears are phobias and often they are tied into or linked to other challenges. Making a diagnosis from a couple sentences is irresponsible, so take this all with a grain of salt. But it sounds as if you may have issues with people getting close to you or creating a meaningful bond. Something worth checking into with your local health professional

  76. Is there a name for the fear of being emotion less? Or the fear of having too many emotions or the fear of thinking to much about emotions because I think about a problem and then suddenly I’m questioning and overthinking the problem and feeling different emotions towards that problem but then towards a different problem, it’s a sad situation but I don’t feel sad or how I’m supposed to and my emotions are messed up and I done get it but then I fear feeling completely emotionless because I feel like I will hurt people’s feelings because I don’t feel the way I should and they would be like “my dog just died!” And I’m like “oh I’m so sorry” but then I feel awkward because I don’t feel sad or how I’m supposed to in a situation like that and then they r all like “my dog died and you feel fine or happy????!!!” Please help

    • Michael

Mary, while this is not a diagnosis, it sounds like there are many dynamics at play here, from the inability to trust your own perspectives, to some form of disconnect between your emotions and thoughts to an excessive need to please others. It sounds if there is some obsessive thought processes in play also. Getting a label for your situation will probably have you doing lots of research on the disorder, which you hope will help you in finding a way to cope with it, but in reality will probably do very little in making you feel better or changing your situation.
Find someone qualified in your area to work with. If you can’t find anyone, give us a call at 866-718-9995 and we can possibly narrow this down a bit for you

  77. Is there a name for fear of closing eyes when alone in a room, Especially at night

    • I have a fear of closing my eyes so cant do eyelash extensions. I would like to know too if there is a name for it, as fear of closing eyes definitely exists.

  78. Is there a fear of something watching you while you sleep?

  79. Is there a fear of developing the same attitude or behaviour of someone else by just watching them or being with them. Every time I see someone really annoying I get really scared that if I watch them for too long or I talk to them that I will develop the Same behavior and then I will be as annoying as them, so I all ways try to avoid them as it scares me.

    • If you have the fear, then there is such a fear. How common is it is unknown. The mechanism of fear can encompass any item, subject matter or idea. What you want to do is find someone to work with that can help you. Don’t think that if you don’t have a name for it that it makes the fear less likely to overcome, that is a silly idea. Names help in billing clients, working with insurance companies and writing papers, they seldom help in getting people to release them

  80. Loren Ray

Is there a fear for things being thrown at you? Especially like balls or any kind of sport containing balls?

    • People can fear anything, but not everything has a name, nor is it important that every fear be categorized. The names are more important for billing insurance companies than helping people change. Find a reputable therapist who deals in fears. Knowing the name will not help them help you, but they will and should ask you questions that can lead to finding out how you can release the fear.

  81. please tell me something about trypophobia. is it true?

    • A fear of irregular patterns or clusters of small holes or bumps. A phobia is an irrational fear. Is it true? not sure what you are asking other than I think you doubt someone could have such a fear. The mind is capable of associating fear to any object or idea, so in that case, yes it is true

  82. I’m curious is there is such thing as fear of tall men.

    • Again, the mind can associate fears to anything, so yes, there could be a fear of tall men

  83. is there such a phobia like big things on finger tips like the pokemon mr mimes they just creep me out and the pokemon does too

    • There can be a fear of anything the mind can concoct. So is it possible yes

  84. Is there a phobia or fear of not being heard or what you’re saying is not being heard? I’ve been searching, but I can’t find anything.

    • Jesse, the human mind can associate fears to any subject matter, activity or object. Some are more common than others. I do not know what the phobia name for this is. Most phobia names are made up by using the Greek or Latin word and placing phobia behind it. More importantly is what will you do if this is an issue for you. The therapist does not need a label for this unless they are doing paper work for insurance companies.
What a good therapist will find out is what is it that is allowing this construct to be present in you and what needs to change so you can let it go

  85. Is medication the only way to help OCD?

  86. Tropophobia Can also be having fear of small holes or clustered patterns all close together I know that because I suffer from it

  87. Is there a phobia for fearing not being able to contact people? Like I have friends on the Internet and it really bothers me when I think what if I can’t text them or something along those lines?

    • Noah, it is possible to have a fear of anything, including the ability to contact people, though there may be some other underlining fears driving the one you have.

  88. Platinumlizzard

Is there a fear of wrist cutting?

  89. Is there a fear of someone from the past? If so, is there a name for it?

    • This is a very vague question. Fear that someone you know from the past is coming back into your life, is still in your thoughts, is not OK, etc? Can there be any such fear, absolutely.

  90. I have a fear for fingers but not that I get scared when seeing them or anything but I freak out when something bad happens to them. Like when you break them, just the thought of it gives me boosebumps. I also really don’t like toes, the same reason as fingers. I rather fall flat on my face, have a broken nose and teeth than breaking my fingers. I don’t know if it’s a phobia but I just wanted to leave this comment here anyways.

    • It may or may not be a phobia, as not all fears are phobias and not all discomforts fears. If it really bothers you, see a health professional. If it is just something that occasionally freaks you out, it may not be worth the effort

  91. Is there a phobia name for someone who has a fear of commitment?

    • I understand the desire may have to label their fears. Commitment phobias or fears can have their roots in many things, and treatment to overcoming those differences will not be the same
If this is more than just a curiosity for you and it is a real issue, seek counseling. More than likely they will just label it as fear of commitment.

  92. Hello, I have a friend who behaves oddly whenever part of his body goes numb such as when he sits too long. Is this a phobia, fear of being unable to experience touch?

    • Garuda
Not enough information. We all behave oddly at times. You will have to be more specific. As for is there the possibility someone fears unable to experience touch? Yes that is possible. Whether there is a name for it, I could not tell you

  93. I have a few phobias that wasn’t mentioned like the fear of button it where you don’t like to look, touch or be touched by buttons there is a name for it and it hard to pronounce and spell it another phobia is the fear of circles or a more correct way of saying that it’s a phobia of hordes or clusters of small circles for me it worse for me to see pictures of body parts with Photoshop of cluster of circles on the body parts this is called trypophobia the spelling might be bit off and the last one the fear of bones and it not that I’m scared of bones it more to do with the touching and awareness of mine and other peoples bone to be more Pacific the ankles, knees, ribcage and spine one or some times two of those four will be worser than the other two like for me its my ribcage that is more worser for me than the other three. i hope this helps other people who have this feel not alone or crazy other people do have these phobias :]

  94. is there a fear of knowing somebody is watching you

    • A fear of knowing or a fear of believing. Typically this would be paranoia, but there may be other factors to consider

  95. Does anybody know if there is a phobia of being hypnotised or being in a coma? I’m just really interested.

Also does anybody know the name of a phobia of being left behind or being replaced? I have a lot of experience with it and I tend to obsess a lot, even when there are no signs of it happening. It becomes a problem sometimes and it’s really annoying.

    • Every time i think of someone hating me, disowning me or leaving me i get sick to my stomach and my pulse goes from 70 to 120. I don’t think this is healthy. I get so terrified that someone will leave me. it doesn’t matter if its a family member a boyfriend or just a friend. I get terrified. Is there a phobia for this?
I’m getting tired of being scared.

      • Michael

I think you will find you have some self esteem issues that need to be addressed. You have some emotionally based misunderstanding of how you fit into the world, your self esteem is low or you overly get attached to others once they get close to you, probably a little bit of all. If you are fearful, have you tired working with someone yet or have you in some other way tried to make changes in yourself. If you do nothing, nothing will change

  96. from last 10 years i never go out of station, i am feeling stress and sometimes to vomiting before going… i cant sleep somewhere else..

    what is this called ?

fear of going out of station and spending night on some other place ??

  97. Hello
I would be really happy if you could include carpophobia since I myself are suffering from it and most people don’t know what it is and often joke around with it when I tell them.

    Carpophobia – fear of wrists

  98. Colonel.

Is there a name to this phobia . I’ve had it sense I was 5 but it’s started when I was 3 . I. Fear when people care about me . Or try to help me. When people treat me important and are really nice . I get scared . I’m now 14 and it’s gotten worse. . I have this friend I call him chicken nugget . We talk usually . But he ask what I’m doing or how are you or how was your day . And it scares me . So I retreat the question back and never answer it. I fear if someone cares that I’m alive that I have a purpose, and they want to help me…. I don’t know what it is but it just scares me and shuts me down

    • Michael

While this may be a phobia, it sounds like it might also be something deeper, or not, depending on how it impacts your life and how often. I realize at your age access to help may be limited, but you may want to see if you can talk to a therapist if possible to see why your are reacting this way

  99. Anonymous

So many phobias but not the one I have. I have a fear of everything that’s smaller than me and can move faster than me like bugs, reptiles, amphibians, some small mammals but not dogs and cats

    • Since our nervous systems can fear anything imagined, not everything will have a name, since people put their own unique spin on things. Entomophobia is the fear of bugs, but that will not cover your situation completely.
Really if you seek help on this, no one is going to care what it is called. Labels are primarily for Insurance companies. Even if you had a name for it, you would say it and no one is going to know what it is unless you tell them.
All phobias have a Greek or Latin root. You can name it yourself if you want

  100. Hello! I had always a nightmare like my body is paralyzed for a couple of minutes since I was 13 years old up until now and I am already 23. I don’t really know what happened but as long as I can have that nightmare I’m always afraid for the possibilities that might one day it could be forever. Can you help me with this if what’s gonna be this fear. Thank you.

    • The unconscious uses dreams in many ways and there may be numerous reason these nightmares persist. I am going to guess some persistent or big changes occurred around 13 for you. If this is really an issue, seek counseling. I do not have enough info to give you any pertinent advice

  101. I often feel nauseous when I travel in a car and feel scared and panicky. I have a bit of motion sickness although my mom says that I get scared.
Is this just a fear of traveling in a car or something else?
(Please mention the phobia name as well.)

    • Motion sickness is usually not created by a fear – you should talk to your Doctor. If I got motion sickness every time I traveled in a car, I wouldn’t be looking forward to it either

  102. Addam Goudie

i have arachnephobia and phasmophobia/demonophobia (fear of spiders and fear of ghosts/demons) but what’s the fear of falling?

  103. is there a name for a fear of not being able to feel things? i know there are names for fears reagrding feelings (cherophobia, etc.), but what about the opposite? the fear of numbness, or emptiness.

  104. This may sound weird, but as of yesterday, I’ve had a kind of pain in my eyes when thinking about bathtub faucets. Is there any certain phobia of looking at faucets up close????

    • Pauul
Not sure you should be looking for phobia names. Noticing pain is not the same as a fear and from your description I am not sure the two are connected, though there may be more to this than you have written.
I know of no phobia specific phobia that relates to this

  105. i have a deep fear of anyone in uniforms

is there anything that can describe this?

    • Richard I am assuming you mean could there be a reason for having this fear. The primary reason for any fear is we have in some manner associated the fear to the subject at hand, which can come from a one time event or something that has evolved over time. These are unconscious associations and need not follow any form of logic, at least not in the traditional format of logic.

  106. Hi. I’ve looked everywhere for an answer and can’t find one. Can you please tell me if there is a phobia name for being sticky? If I eat something sticky or something sticky gets on my skin and I can’t get it off of me, it basically freaks me out.

    • I also have this but have never found a name for it either. People think I am kidding when I tell them, but it is 100% a real fear. It does not have to even tough me, even close by is terrifying to me. I do not have a sub-fear such as chocking or peanut butter sticking to the roof of my mouth. Peanut butter oddly does not fall into my sticky category. Suckers, syrup, honey, caramel (by itself), ect. do.

  107. Jaydah Smith

Is there a phobia for any of the following:
Fear of being forgotten / no one caring that your gone
Fear of not living your life to the fullest / not having a adventure in your life
    Fear of nobody loving you
Fear of people talking about something you know about and the thought of other people knowing about it makes you want to cry because you want it so badly to just be your thing (Ex: I love the TV The Vampire Diaries but if I hear someone talk about it I freak out and have to distract myself from the person and forget they have watched the show)
    Fear of failure
    Fear of yourself / mind

P.S some of these might not be phobias but I just need to know because this is what I feel and yeahh

    • First all of these fears can exist and you are correct in realizing they are not all phobias.
Reading your list I suspect you rely on others to give you certainty and you identity needs to be discovered or supported. You do not trust yourself and are uncertain how to fit in. That can be a very difficult place to be. I hope you
find someone to work with that can assist you in becoming all you can be

  108. What is the fear of losing everyone and not being able to do anything about it?

    • Kit,
Not sure if there is a label for this, but I have talked to people over the years that have in one way or another experienced something similar. Part of this comes from unrealistic expectations, that you should be able
to control things that are not in your control. Of course another part is not being able to effectively deal with lose. I am certain other elements are part of the situation for you. You do not need a label to seek help and I would encourage you to do so, because this can create a huge burden on all facets of your life

  109. Deana Michele

Is there a fear of letting people down. Not failure.

    • Sure there is. Does it have a specific label, that I am uncertain of. Quite often this gets thrown in with the label of people pleasing, which many do not look at as a fear, but that is what typically drives it, the fear of not letting people down

  110. Is there a spasific fear of disappointing others?

    • There can be many things contributing to the fear of disappointing others? Low self esteem, the need to please others, the avoidance or fear of conflicts, guilt issues, etc.

    • Social Phobia– Fear of being evaluated negatively in social situations.

  111. Anyone know the fear of opening up to people, or the fear of people who want to be close (emotionally) with you?

  112. Is there a name for the fear/ dislike of, feeling like you are surrounded by others who are incompetent.

    • One way of looking at this it a person who is feeling superior, judgmental or not being accepting of others

  113. What’s the fear of things getting too loud to fast?

  114. What is fear of balls thrown at me even though they are far

  115. what is the fear of being rejected?

  116. I couldnt see it on here but is haveing clay, oil pastals and chalck on you hands a phobia

    • Layonie
You can have a fear about anything. Is there an official name for the fear of having chalk or clay on your hands? Not that I know of – doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. The real thing you want to focus on is if this fear is one impacting your life, you may want to see a therapist

  117. Britney Marie

I have a fear that constantly plagues me of opening my eyes and something being there that wasn’t there before. I don’t close my eyes when i shower and i try not to close my eyes for more than a blink. It keeps me up at night.

On a more positive note, I used to have a terrible fear of the dark and couldn’t sleep without the light on. My husband helped me learn to cope with my Achluophobia when i was 23 and now it is much easier and i only need a nightlight when i am alone.

    • Britney, I am going to guess there are some trust issues you have with dealing with the unexpected. Whether this is a phobia or something else should be determined by a professional. Have you had any counseling on this? It may help

    • I have the same fear, I need to open my eyes quick to make sure it isn’t there. I also can’t sleep in a total darkness, I must at least have some kind of street light. Some time ago It was so bad that I used to have a panic attack watching the sun set due to the fear of the night. I wished I could fly around the world to escape the night. It was the worst time of my life and I didn’t think I will get over it but it went away as sudden as it came on. I never talked about it and haven’t thought of it till I came on this site.

  118. Is there a fear of someone always following you

  119. Random Youtuber

Is their any phobia involving holding onto things you did wrong??? I wasn’t sure but when i typed into the search bar this came up. The closest thing to it was fear of memories but it doesn’t exactly fit the description exactly.

    • Once again, we can fear anything. This is more a mechanism of how our nervous system processes mental and emotional information rather than a specific subject matter. However, I would question if for you this is a fear or is it more of guilt or shame and can you tell these apart. Without further information it is hard to give you a good answer

  120. I have a fear of food germs or just food getting on me and my clothes. I have to wash my hands a lot because of it and change my clothes even if I can’t see the food on me. Even if I just think it touched me. Is there a phobia of this?

I also have a fear of not turning my car lights off. I have to take a picture of the switch so I know I did it. Phobia?

    • Dana, not all fears are phobias. Your situation sounds more like OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), both for the germs and the car lights. You will definitely want to work with someone who can assist you on this

  121. I was recently told that there is a word for “fear of women with fat butts.” Does anyone know what the word is?

  122. I have a fear of touching and feeling my own bones. I get grossed out and starts to panic when I touch my collarbone or feel my ribs. Is this an phobia if so what is it called?

    • Getting grossed out is not necessarily the same as a fear. You may have a heightened awareness of your body or body sensations that your mind puts meaning to. Sometimes the level of awareness is only as useful as our ability to deal with or process it. The awareness levels are much higher than your processing capability, then you can have issues
If the problem interferes with your daily living, then you may want to see a counselor. If it doesn’t, avoid touching your bones as much as you can.

    • A Nonny Mouse

I also have this fear, and I was looking for someone who has it also. I call it afíostóphobia. I am deeply afraid and panic when touching my bones/muscle. I can’t bear telling my school, as I fear my teacher may mock me. I have slight PTSD and a fear of adult figures. I cannot see, or feel muscle as it makes me sick. I know you haven’t been here since last year, but It’s nice to know someone feels the same.

  123. noah the nazi

right okay so last night I had the SCARIEST dream of my life. it has left me with scars soooo severe and gory it would make you tremble in your pantyhose! so I woke up in the middle of the night in a pool of sweat, dreading the fact that my dream may have come true, I MIGHT’VE GOTTEN MARRIED TO A MAN!!!
his muscular frame was so attractive and manly. but I’m scared to be gay!! what is the phobia of being gay and married to a FAGGOT!! FURTHERMORE I AGREE WITH JESUS’ TEACHINGS AS ALL BLASPHAMISERS SHOULD BE CRUCIFIED. pls tell me what the fear of crucifixion and holy revalations is?? much appreciated, Noah

    • Noah, if this is a one time event, regardless of how real it was for you, then it could come from numerous reasons and hopefully it will just be something that happened. My guess is much of your thinking is very black and white, right and wrong and that is OK, but it can make life more challenging.
If this is an on going issue for you, then you may want to get checked for OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder

  124. Jocelyn Woclott

What is the fear of extended limbs, I will try to explain this best I can, but I have scoliosis and it scares me to see ones back “pop” out more than usual. Or an arm that is longer than the other. I have not found a word for it yet.

    • Since people can fear just about anything the mind can conceive, not all specific fears are named and they do not need to be. If this is truly an issue with you, find someone to work with. As scary and real as this may seem to you, these types of fears can be released

  125. Nicole Polo

I have a huge fear of offending people or emotionally disturbing anyone even in the slightest. This makes up most of the reason why I am awkward when chatting with new people. What does this suggest? Thanks.

    • It could suggest many things, but most certainly you put the opinions and emotional states of others before your own. I doubt you will ever be the type of person to intentionally go out to hurt someone, so that probably will never be an issue for you. But you do have points of view you want to express and any point of view could be viewed as hostile by someone from some perspective. So your fear puts you in a pickle, that either you don’t express yourself or you risk hurting someone. You may want to work with someone to deal with this, so you can feel comfortable sharing your perspectives

  126. Is there a fear of someones feelings for you changing? If so please let me know.

    • Any fear that can be imagined can be realized. Know that feelings are not stationary, they are always altering in some format, so you should expect that someones feelings for you will change. What you may want to work on is your ability to deal with other people changing, which I suspect is the root of your fear

  127. Sayma Tabassum

I’m scared of talking to unknown people or you can say unknown people kinda irritates me. what is this called?

    • There could be a big difference between fear and irritation. If it is fear, I would suspect it is social phobia

  128. I have a fear of whats behind doors, not the door itself. I feel like when a door is open someone is around the corner watching me, when its closed their looking under the door or listening to me. Another fear is when I open a door or put on a shirt I am scared I will see a different place or walk into an alternate dimension(apocalypse).

  129. The Beautiful Wall

What is the fear of breaking a toe? I ve suffered from it and I’ve found nothing about what it really is called.

    • Michael

While there are well over a thousand recognized names of fears, most will go unnamed, since they are not widely recognized. This doesn’t mean you have some strange disorder, since the mechanism for fear can be used on anything the mind can think of. You can name it yourself, just look up the Greek or Latin word(s) for breaking a toe and put phobia behind it

  130. What Would you call the fear of people finding out about ones true self

    • I also have a fear of being happy. Could you give me a few ways to deal with this without getting professional help.

      • Michael

No one has the same criteria for happiness. For you the illusion of happiness could be achieved by obtaining certain things. Maybe you require the avoidance of certain things. Most likely you are not content in areas of yourself. Could be how you process your emotions, traumatic events, low self esteem, not believing you are good enough, your perceived level of proficiency, how you feel you fit into the world, your expectations, etc. You see, there are all sorts of reasons people are not happy. Some people are happy but just can’t recognize it. Happiness is what you create, so take some time on this to work on.

    • Michael

Since “being ones true self” is an unspecified concept no one can really agree upon, I am going to think you have aspects of yourself some parts of you recognize as potentially troublesome, regardless of it merits any truth. Whether this is a phobia or a self esteem issue or something else is something you would want to work on with a specialist.

  131. I dont know if its a phobia or not. When im normally doing something in my office or in my room, it feels like when i’ll change my position my head will hit any object (cupboard, any stand, window’s door etc) that is near, but actually no object is near, even when im sitting on the chair, before standing up i check if there is any object that can be hit by my head, obviously there should be nothing there (at the top of any chairs location) hope anyone understand, and give any solution.

    • Michael

without further info, I could not tell you if this is a phobia or if you just have a really great imagination or if your spacial perception needs some assistance

  132. Which phobia is it like if u do something or for ex if u switch on a button and u think that u should do it 3 to 4 times or else something bad will happen to u or ur family ?

    • Many people feel repetitive behavior is like a phobia because there is a fear driving it, like in your example, “something bad will happen”. But these are not phobias. This is more likely to be OCD, obsessive compulsive behavior, which has a whole lot of other attributes connected to it.

  133. Im afraid of humanity, but not people im just afraid of the human race it’s hard to explain but im not afraid of society or anything like that. It’s just the thought that humans took over practically the entire planet freaks me out is there a name for this?

    • I wouldn’t get to hung up on a name of this, this the mind can be fearful of almost anything. Your fear is a generalization and from a very unique perspective. So it all depends on how you categorize humanity. Now this may or may not be a phobia and it could be rooted (completely or partially) in something different (like being taken advantage of or controlled). Not enough info. If this is problematic for you or it interferes with you ability to cope with daily life, see a professional

  134. This going to sound complicated but I have this weird phobia of not knowing what’s around me, it could be in any situation, if I don’t know what is behind me or in a space I can’t see I get really scared the hair on my arms stand up and I feel like screaming. It’s not like fear of the unknown though, because if I can see something but I don’t know what it is I am fine, and it’s not fear of the dark because if I have a place memorized it doesn’t matter if I can’t see thing I know they are there so I am fine. I really want to know the name of this fear so I can figure out more about it and maybe know why I have it and how common it is.

    • I am going to have to hallucinate that this is another form of fear of the unknown and quite possibly the underlining issue is not being able to trust in your ability to work past this. It may very well be more complicated, but if this is something that impacts your life enough, then see a therapist so the details can be uncovered and it can get resolved

  135. Rebecca Strange

I’ve been looking for an answer for this one for a while now. My daughter is absolutely, 100%,terrified of slides at playgrounds and parks. Is there a specific name for that? It’s not the height that bothers her either.

    • The human nervous system can associate fear to anything. I don’t have a name for this, maybe someone else knows. If this fear does not impact your daughters day to day living, then it may just be one of those things she can live with. But if this is a real problem for her, then she should look to work with someone

  136. Well, I don’t know if it’s a phobia or not.. But I’m scared of dating or being with someone whom many people have their eyes on.. Someone that has many people crushing on him or falling for him.. No matter how I’m crushing on that person or I love him, I just don’t wanna be with that person.. Even if I know the person loves me.

    • I would think you don’t want to be hurt, that there is a fear that someone who can attract others might be lured away from you, but I would need more info. Do you feel you are lovable? Do you feel you can bring value to another persons life? If not, you may want to work on your self esteem and value

  137. So what would you call fear of rejection?

  138. Okay this is driving me nuts. I cant find the name for the fear of being followed or stalked. Its not being looked at that scares me, the idea of being followed, under surveillance, stalked, etc. terrfies me. Its not paranoia, but if i feel like someone is following me or just imaging it happen scares me to death mostly out of a distrust for people and not knowing thier intentions (and not really wanting to find out in that situation.)

  139. Paxton Bailey

Add imparnumerophobia: the fera of odd numbers

  140. Thor Thundergod

Is this every phobia that exsists? I find it hard to believe that with how specific some of these are, there is no phobia where the person is scared to have the doors around them unlocked and must lock them after every time they are used. It seems to just fall under OCD, but I strongly disagree with that on account of the fact that I’ve met multiple people like this who aren’t OCD about other things….just locking doors, if anyone knows a name for this condition please post it. If there isn’t a name for it there should be because it exists and should be recognized as more than just a form of OCD, because it seems as if they dont just need to lock it for the sake of locking it, but rather are afraid of who or what could come through that door or what could happen if left open. It just seems messed up to think that this hasn’t been thought of or addressed as its own phobia.

    • This is not every phobia, it is merely a list of phobias. Because the nervous system can associate fears to anything (real or made up) it would not be possible to have all fears, because many are unique to a very small group of people. However that does not mean they can’t be treated. As to OCD, many people only have the fear or obsession of a singular thing, like doors being locked. Others have numerous obsessions or compulsions. The difference in your case will come down to are you checking or have the urge to check the door being locked (for whatever reason you place to this) or do you just have a fear of unlocked doors (it does not sound like it). The only way to really know for sure, is to go to get a diagnosis by seeing a professional in person.

  141. Fear of bags …. easthamaphobia

  142. Fear to answer questions

When some friends asking me about my life I’m feeling sick don’t like the people ask me anything

    • The question to ask yourself is “do you fear answering all questions?” Like what is 1 plus 7? Or is it only personal questions or questions about what you may know? This may be a phobia, but if it is personal questions, that may also be about yourself esteem, self worth or low self image. Could be you are uncertain about yourself. You may be placing too much emphasis on how people perceive you

  143. What is the fear of grass called??

  144. What do you call a phobia of not being in control? As in there not being free will. As if your actions are not of your own doing and are done by malicious forces

    • That may not be a phobia. Unless this is something that just pops up every so often, I would check with a local health professional in your area and get this diagnosed

  145. Is there a name for the fear of uncertainty. Such as when someone says “I’ll tell you later” but you fear it won’t occur

    • While this could be a phobia, it sounds as though you may have trust issues, either with a particular person or with yourself. There may also be other things going on, but not enough info to be sure

  146. is there a fear of having something inside of you? like being full (from eating) or being pregnant?

    • Your nervous system (mind, emotions) can potentially link a fear to any idea or subject matter, so to answer your question, yes. If you want to know if there is a specific name for this fear, there may be, but not one I am aware of

  147. Is there a fear of looking at close up pictures of germs or bacteria? Like this ? .
I don’t know why, it just freaks me out and sometimes makes me feel like I’ll faint.

    • Lilly, you can have a fear about anything, our nervous systems do not discriminate on these types of things. So yes you can have a phobia of looking at germ pictures too close or others getting mad. Now these may be phobias or there may be some other things going on.
The question is not if these exist or do you have them, it is what will you do to work through them. You know they are irrational, but they feel real to you. If they only happen once in a great while, great, you may choose to just live with it. If they occur frequently or are getting worse, you may seriously think about seeing someone about these or working with someone on these issues. They may be easy to address or they may be more complex, can’t tell with the info you have provided

  148. Also, is there a fear of other people getting mad/ raging?

  149. Is there a name for a fear of bones/ bones breaking? As I’m typing this the thought of bones makes me queasy and faint. The thought of God forbid a bone breaking nauseates me and I can’t even eat food off the bone. Also, I get goosebumps and freak out if someone has their back to me! It’s the scariest thing for me. I suffer from anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia… but these “fears” make me physically react and almost pass out… any ideas on what they would be called?

    • J.Roy
Having a physical reaction to certain ideas, sounds, events or images could be a phobia, but I am guessing you can be pretty sensitive to numerous things; they just don’t give you these overwhelming sensations. I am also guessing you have a very active imagination, which does not always serve you well. You spend more time in negative emotions then you would care to get into. This sometimes feels like internal chaos and you spend a lot of time in your thoughts and emotions. I am not going to label these physical reactions, nor are there easy suggestions to make for all you experience.
I hope you are working with a professional – they can ask more questions and then hopefully give you an answer

    • I also have a phobia of bones breaking or the possibility of it potentionally happening. I can’t watch gymnastic jumps or arm wrestling without getting anxiety. I don’t know what it’s called, but I definitely have is as a phobia.
It started one day, because I saw a video with arm wrestling go extremely wrong.

  150. Lucy Closter

Is there a phobia fo the feeling of always being watched? I seem to be getting the feeling a lot lately, it’s like someone is behind me, watching me but I don’t want to turn around because opinion scared of what might be there. I’ve tried searching it up but there doesn’t seem to be a specific term. If you do know one it would be great to finally know

    • Michael

I think the word you are looking for is paranoia, which is a fear that typically is not classified as a phobia

  151. Damaris

Is there a phobia of not knowing where you are?

    • While there may be a name for it, I am not familiar with it. I am guessing this might have more with your identity or self worth, rather then a phobia, but without further info, I’d rather not make any assumptions

  152. Jeremiah

What’s the fear of Large Flags. Not Large Objects. Flags in general. And second, how about fear of grass touching your feet (especially when wearing sandals, but anytime really)

    • Jeremiah, thanks for your question. While there may be names for these fears, I don’t have the answer. Maybe someone else can answer this one. The mind can associate fear to pretty much anything. The real question is it a simple phobia, complex phobia, anxiety or something else. If these are just fleeting fears that come up every so often, then maybe you can just live with it. However if they present real issues for you to cope with everyday living, if they are getting worse or stronger, then you may want to seek counseling

  153. Hello! I didn’t saw this in the list, so I’m asking you, guys. Does anyone have a fear of breaking bones and how is it called? Everytime I watch a movie or see real life events that show breaking someone’s bones I feel really strange. I’m not sure if I can describe it to you correctly, but I think I have this fear because I’ve broken my arm and leg a few times. I’m afraid of it happening again and seeing in people in pain.

    • Linn, not certain if there is a name for this fear, but clearly you may want to see someone to help you resolve this, especially if it has been going on for a while or if it is getting worse.

  154. Johnathon

Is there a fear of what you can’t see, I get extremely paranoid when someone points out something that I can’t see or a dark corner in a room and even the ocean. I’d like to confirm that it’s not the ocean that scares me it’s when I can’t see in it that scares me. I in fact love swimming and used to train to be an Olympic athlete and I don’t have trouble standing in or being on top of the ocean it’s only when my head goes under and I see nothing. It’d be greatly appreciated if someone helped me!

    • Jonathon, without further info, I am not going to assume to know how your mind is processing these things. The fear of uncertainty or unknown can have numerous reasons for existing. That you feel paranoid adds another layer of complexity to this. If you truly want to know or if this is consuming lots of your mental or emotional energy, you may think about seeing someone

  155. liz mcnearney

I have a phobia of not knowing whats behind me and wil sometimes stand by a wall so i dont turn around all the time. its so hard not to turn around. everytime i google it it get the fear of unknown people.

    • Liz, don’t get hung up on finding a name for your fear, since the mind can create fears for almost anything. Naming phobias in general are created by finding the Greek or Latin word for whatever the fear is and adding “phobia” on it and often they are very vague labels. Since you have a few fears, suggests you might have some other underlining issues that might need to be addressed. Find someone in your area to work with

  156. What is the fear of putting your hand into a bag called?

    • Dylan, I am not familiar with what this would be called. Maybe someone else know this

    • would your fear be because you are afraid something might sting/pinch/stab/etc. your hand?
Cause I had the same problem not with bags but with things like holes in the ground that might contain something that bites and/or is poisonous.

A few times, a long time ago I was with a group at one lake or another and they were hunting crawdads by shoving their hands down crawdad holes and grabbing them with their bare hands and I refused to do so cause at the time I guess you can say I was afraid the pinch of their claws would hurt.

  157. I have the fear of being hit by a ball is this a thing??

    • The mind / nervous system can have a fear of anything, so yes, this can be a thing. Is there a name for this, not that I am aware of, though that doesn’t mean a name for doesn’t exist. If this is a problem, don’t wait to find the name, since get past this will not be determined on it having a name

  158. I’ve a couple fears:
    1. Drinking out of glass, cup or bottle the thought of the glass touching my lips makes my skin crawl. Not afraid of glass in general just drinking from it.
    2. Touching wet towels that aren’t mine. This goes for washcloths, damp towels after a bath, rag in the sink or elsewhere.
    3. Sandpaper, I can’t hear it, touch it, use it, makes me want to vomit.

  159. Can u have a fear of things exploding. I always think that my blender is going to explode or my lawn mower or my TV if it makes a funny noise even the vacuum. Basically if there’s something and it makes noise im scared its going to explode

  160. Platinumboy

I’m sure there must be a phobia that somewhere, somehow, our parents are watching—and don’t approve.

  161. is there a fear of not being able to see? I’ve looked everywhere but can’t find it. (I need it for a story I’m writing, it’s really important for the story line)

    • There are many fears that are nameless. This is because the nervous system is capable of fearing anything people can imagine. Not all things classified as fears are phobias. You can create your own name by taking the Greek or Latin word for what you are seeking and placing phobia behind it.

  162. What is the fear of everything being fake? like life is a simulation?

    • Not sure you will find a name for this. The mind can have a fear of almost anything, real or made up. Because there are an infinite variations of fears or phobias, there are plenty of fears that are unique or expressed in unique ways. That doesn’t mean your situation is special or that you have some new disorder. The mechanisms for a phobia are basically the same, regardless of subject matter. It is understandable you want to put a name on it and you can, since most phobias are Greek or Latin words put in front of “phobia”. Look up the Greek or Latin word (or words) for your phobia and you are half way there

  163. Is there a phobia name for being picked up by someone. Not in a car, like when you were little and someone would pick you up. Is there a name?

    • Not sure you will find a name for this. Yes there can be a phobia of this nature as the mind can have a fear of almost anything, real or made up. Because there are an infinite variations of fears or phobias, there are plenty of fears that are unique or expressed in unique ways. That doesn’t mean your situation is special or that you have some new disorder. The mechanisms for a phobia are basically the same, regardless of subject matter. 164. I have a fear of sex

  165. Thomas Jefferson

Ever since I was 7 I have had a really weird fear. I don’t think it’s on the list so I’m hoping you can help me figure out what it is. I’m afraid of getting picked up and carried like a 4 year old. Do you know the name of it?

    • Thomas

  166. VintageStamp

I have a fear of seeming narcissistic and arrogant, so I don’t like it when people complement me and I get super shy and tell them to stop ✋.
I was looking in this list to see if I can find the name of it, but I couldn’t find.
I wonder if anyone knows the name of it?!

    • Well there may be a name for this, but I am not sure this is just a phobia. How much guilt or shame do you feel when getting a compliment? If there is a considerable amount, this may be more of a self esteem or self worth issue, especially since you have strong feelings of being shy

  167. Hadyan Habibi

is phobia fear of seeing people get hurt exist??
if it is, then what is it?

    • I am assuming you experience this, so we know it is real, but it may not be a phobia. You may be over empathizing with other peoples pain or you may be extra sensitive to people getting hurt. Not enough information to really give you a better answer

  168. So, I think I have cacophobia. So recently this year ive been having anxiety over a few things. So, in the 6th grade my school had a track and the pavement was cracked and it had leaves coming out. I found It very weird and unnatural that it looks like that. Those were the only cracks that actually made me uncomfortable. I forgot about it when years later I came back to jog with my friend this year and I saw the cracks and a huge wave of tension came to the side of my neck and the back of my neck. Then one thing happened where I was getting ready for an online call and on my wall appeared a black stain. Then that wave came to me again and as I’m writing this I feel it now because I’m thinking about it. So, that stain disturbed me to much that I ran to my bathroom grabbed a towel and wet it and cleaned it so hard as if it was the dirties thing there. Keep in mind that my room is pretty dirty like school papers all over my room and this was the most dirtiest and revolting Stan I ever thought I’ve seen in my life and I still think that. Another thing was my mom cooked some corn and they left me with corn that was kinda messed up. It was ugly honestly, it was a patch of dry corn on the cob and The rest was fine and i was sop disgusted thatI was debating getting it away from me and in the trash but then I gave it to my mom and she ate it without ease. I complained to her that why would she eat something so gross. And I kinda geared up a bit because I thought I’d loose it. Just when I thought it wouldn’t get worse. Another wall in my room had the same black stain and right now I’m have an uneasiness near the side of my upper neck to try jawline and it reached the whole wall i dont even know where these stains where coming from and it was black and it got worse to the bottom i felt like it was slowly reaching the top of the wall like a parasite and god I wanted to spray it with Clorox but I couldn’t because the heater was on and I didnt want to risk a thing. I tried not to think about it until i told em friend my room was messiah but what was bothering me was that stain it was gross. When i went closer to it. I suddenly felt anxiety rushing through me slowly. I walked quickly to my kitchen but i was still fine. As i was cleaning it and talking to my friend i suddenly felt disgusted that i didn’t get rid of it soon. Right now I’m feeling uncomfortable writing this but i need to figure this out. I checked to see if it was anywhere else and I found my wall looking like mold. It a white wall but it looked like something was protruding out and now my brain feels tense. And I suddenly couldn’t take it i ran to my bathroom and tears were streaming out my eyes i was nervous and disgusted but that and I kept trying to stay calm and breath in and out. This all happed today with the stain on the wall and a part of the wall breaking.I decided to wash myself but never did because i went to my sister and asked her why this was happening and I explained to her my eyes were bursting with tears and I suddenly couldn’t breathe easily because it felt like my throat was clogged and i was struggling to say the words I wanted to to so i told her to come to my room. My friend said it could’ve been mold and that made me freak out more. I always found mold a bit gross but I did not want to think my room had mold in it and my sister joked about it that it was mold. That’s when. I started freaking out and raising my voice a bit and that wall should not look like that. I was going to get someone to come and repaint these walls even if they were white i didn’t want to see a messed up wall and I grabbed a bottle of Clorox that i put back in the kitchen after using it fro the other wall and made my sister clean it even though I knew it wouldn’t do good. I would like to know if it’s Chacophobia or not? Thank you.

    • First, thank you for sharing your experience, since it was not that easy to do. Now I am not going to make a diagnosis here, but my guess there may be more to it than Cacophobia, since it does not seem to just be about things being ugly. Since this seems to be impacting you pretty dramatically, I would suggest you speak with a health professional in your area. I also would not just go to your Doctor to get anxiety medications; you actually want to speak with someone in depth about this. Just a suggestion

  169. Is there a fear of oneself hurting someone else?

  170. What is the fear of getting dressef and going outside in the morning”

  171. I’m not sure what triggered this, but I have a fear of someone hiding in my bathtub waiting for someone to come in. Every time I walk into a bathroom with a tub in it I move the shower curtain and check.

    • While this may have something to do with bathtubs, it may also be a fear of being harmed transferred to the idea of bathtubs being harmful. Right now it is isolated to a specific item, which while uncomfortable, is probably manageable. If it gets worse or starts expanding past the bathtub, you may want to find someone to work with on this

  172. I need help, I can’t seem to find the name of my phobia anywhere but I know it has to be common. It’s the fear of being uncertain of what is nearby, like when you are in a pool of water and the water is too dark to see below you, or when you are in mist or general darkness and are unable to see farther than a few feet ahead. It also includes the fear that your other senses aren’t able to detect things either, particularly hearing. However it does not include being afraid of not knowing what may be farther away, like in another room or separate area, only what is immediately near. If I’m unsure of what is twenty feet ahead but know what is within reaching distance then I am not afraid, but if the reverse is true and I know what is ahead but can not tell if something or someone is near to me I feel panicked. I’m positive this has to be a common fear, does anyone know it’s name?

    • We did not find the word for your situation, but realize most phobia names are merely Greek or Latin words placed in front of “phobia”. You may choose a different approach on this, as it seems yours is really the fear of the unknown, specifically the unknown that could directly effect you. Just something to keep in mind. Also, while it may be comforting to find a name given to a situation you feel (this way you are not the only one), most working in the field of helping others, do not put too much meaning on the words, rather what causes this and how you can process this differently

  173. Mbalenhle

Is medication the best way to overcome a phobia?

    • Medication most certainly is an option and one some use. You want to look at whats the issue at hand and how it much it effects you and is it truly a phobia. Many phobias are a bit more complex, such as fear of germs, which often is OCD. Others are PTSD oriented and some are just simple phobias. If you have a phobia that only shows its ugly self a few times a year, you may want to question taking meds.
You want to talk to someone to see if it makes sense or if there are better alternatives to try first. Many phobias are not difficult to overcome, some take a bit more work and as previously mentioned, others are not really phobias

    • No, but medications are one of the most common treatment plans, whether by itself or with other therapies. If you read the labels of medications used to treat OCD, most will say something to the effect these “should be augmented with counseling / therapies”. Medications are meant to minimize the way information is transmitted in the neurology of a person; which in mild cases may be enough. But many seeking help for OCD do not do so until it becomes more intense. If the underlining issues of OCD are not addressed; the limitations of medications have a tendency to resurface. OCD is a complex challenge and has many moving parts that may require numerous approaches.
